Fontana Forni

Fontana Forni
1945

Roots of Fontana Forni

The story begins approximately eighty years ago, in 1945, when Fontana Forni’s founder, Giuseppe Fontana, returned home from the war. Giuseppe came from San Lorenzo in Campo, part of the Italian province of Pesaro e Urbino. Carlo and Bruno, Giuseppe’s two brothers, joined him in expanding the family’s manufacturing business.

1954

New Horizons for Fontana

Post-war Italy provided a space for innovation and growth for companies such as Fontana. In 1954, the demand for Fontana products increased so much that they had to hire more staff. At this time, the brothers focused on agricultural machinery, but this was soon to change.

1975

From Metal to Flame

In 1975, an energy crisis in Italy offered the Fontana family an opportunity for reinvention. The brothers used their experience in metalworking to create the Fontana Forni furnace, and so the brand, Fontana Forni, was born.

1995

Strength in Expansion

In the ensuing years, the company experienced industrialization and expansion, investing in further factory space. Fontana Forni acquired a third factory space in 1995 as a bid to improve efficiency.

1998

The Gusto 80 Outdoor Pizza Oven

Another key year for the company was 1998, which saw the creation of the Gusto 80 outdoor pizza oven. A product that is popular to this day.

2000

Going Global

The 2000s saw further expansion into international markets such as the Middle East, Australia, and North America. Production processes were also upgraded during this time, with new laser steel cutting and bending machinery purchased.

Alfa Forni

Alfa Forni idea
The Idea Sparks

When Two Cousins Sparked an Idea

A couple of decades later than the Fontana Forni, the Alfa Forni’s origins story began. Another family affair, the Alfa Forni branch of the company, was started by two cousins. Marcello and Rocco wanted to create an impressive looking pizza oven for their garden parties. However, their patented pizza oven product only came to the market in 2010.

Foundations in Fire

Rooted in Fire, Built with Family

Back to the company’s origins: Alfa Refrattari, established in 1977, was then a refractory material specialist. The two cousins worked on their pizza oven idea until they finally created the Forno Tradizionale. Whilst this product was a winner in their creator’s eyes, there was one sticking point.

The Waiting Game

The Oven That Took Too Long

The Forno Tradizionale was far too slow. People didn’t like having to wait three hours for their food to be cooked. However, Rocco’s son, Andrea, who noticed this disadvantage, had come up with a solution to the problem. He suggested that they incorporate the heat flow technology that was already being used in other products in their ovens too.

The Breakthrough

Reaching Pizza Perfection in Minutes

The result: the oven could reach an optimum cooking temperature in as little as ten minutes, with this adaptation. Alfa has since brought out commercial and domestic ovens using this technology.

From Backyard to Brand

Backyard Cooking, Reinvented

Fast-forward to the present day, Alfa’s customers can enjoy home-cooked pizzas and more in their back gardens just like Rocco and Marcello. Also, the company has now been rebranded as Alfa 1977 and encompasses four branches: Alfa Ref, Alfa Pizza, Alfa Pro, and Alfa Living.
